Consent & Privacy
Your Data, Your Choice
Bounded Self collects only what you consent to. When you withdraw consent for a specific data type, that data is hidden immediately but permanently deleted after 30 days. This deletion is not reversible after the 30-day period. You're not agreeing to a policy you can't undo. Every choice is reversible, and the app works fine with just the basics.
Consent types
- Emotional data (required): energy levels and direction (gain/expense). This is the core of the app and cannot be disabled while your account is active.
- Journal data (optional): free-text reflections stored via the Energy Journal. Withdraw consent and existing journal entries are deleted.
- Mood tracking (optional): mood tags on energy entries. Withdrawing removes mood data from all entries.
- Location tracking (optional): self-reported location tags, not GPS or automatic location tracking. Withdrawing removes location data.
- Social tracking (optional): people tags on entries. Withdrawing removes all people associations.
Managing consent
You can review and change your consent choices at any time in Settings → Data Consent. Each toggle shows when consent was last granted or withdrawn. Changes take effect immediately.
Data export
Download a complete JSON archive of all your entries, journal data, categories, and settings from Settings → Privacy & Data → Export Data. The export includes everything associated with your account.
Account deletion
You can permanently delete your account from Settings → Privacy & Data → Delete Account. After re-authenticating your account, there will be a 7 day grace period during which you may cancel the deletion of your account. After this grace period, the deletion of the account will be placed in a queue for a scheduled task to remove deleted accounts. This entire process may take up to 30 days including the grace period, but is generally processed a couple of days after it enters the deletion queue. This is irreversible.
Account pausing
Not ready to delete but want a break? Pause your account instead. Pausing disables tracking and hides your data without deleting it. Resume anytime you're ready to pick up where you left off.
Cookies
Bounded Self uses two types of cookies:
- Essential cookies: required for authentication and session management. These cannot be disabled.
- Analytics cookies: set by default to help improve the product. Analytics cookies do not track you across external sites. See our privacy policy for details.
You can update your cookie preferences at any time in Settings.
